CARLOS V

CARLOS I of Spain and V of Germany (1500-1558), son of Philip I Beautiful and of Juana of Castile, grandson for mother line of the Kings Católicos. He inherited the throne of Spain to the death of his grandfather Fernando Catholic in 1516, and little later, in 1519, when died his paternal grandfather Maximiliano I of Germany, was elected an emperor. In 1556 he abdicated the wreath of Spain in his son Philip II and that of the Empire of Germany in favour of his brother Fernando, moving back to rest to Yuste's monastery.
